Cooking Rice / 煮饭

Cooking Rice / 煮饭

Cooking rice with TM31 is faster, healthier and easier too.

1st, you can do the washing in the simmering basket itself. I'll normally do 3 washes and drained. Put it into TM bowl, add in water just enough to cover the rice as you can see in picture.

For rice cooking, Thermomix can cook up till 3 cups of rice.

Turn on the regular T'T'S (Time, Temperature and Speed)
15mins (30mins for brown rice)/ 100°C (or V if doing combined cooking, i.e. steaming on Varoma) / Speed 3.5

Why is it healthy you might ask. This way of cooking, most of the starch/ glucose is drained out hence it is healthier, less fattening and good for diabetic people to eat with peace of mind.

Not only it's better choice for diabetic people.. The fact that it was a big health news about arsenic in rice is much to worry on. See latest news here: http://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodborneIllnessContaminants/Metals/ucm319948.htm

"Published studies and ongoing FDA research indicate that cooking rice in excess volumes of water, five to six times that of the rice, and draining the excess water, can reduce up to roughly half of the arsenic content" - as written in the last paragraph of the site.

More about arsenic in rice and other food. I have shared this too many times, at times I couldn't even find the posts back.. Shall keep the link here: https://www.facebook.com/thermomixMY/posts/389455511145963

I will normally pour into a bowl, get it cooled then water my plants. See here for reference.

I heard that this remaining of rice water (米水/ 粥水), is very good for young children but of course not for us adults who is having too much carbo intake. The healthy way to eat is to go low on carbo and high on fats. I am still reading up on this part of LCHF diet. There were some articles mentioned that one should not be too worrying about high cholesterol level and skipping fats especially butter is not helping. Butter is a better choice compared to margarine. See picture below, even ants are smarter. What are we waiting for? (source from : Changing Habits's Page)

Fruit Sunday

Fruit Sunday

Was watching in channel AFC with 3 kids at home, my nieces and nephew...  They got me into trying out something new.

Checked the website at
Good Chef Bad Chef
and I said wait, let me have a look in fridge. Found all these and I said, yeah, we can make something out of it ;)

Tadaaa! Not too bad looking and taste great too.

with 3 happy kids. Well, it wasn't really frozen and I have only pudding mix in fridge so kind of mushy and the boy doesn't really fancy it too much though.

Fried Mee Hoon / 炒米粉

Fried Mee Hoon / 炒米粉

Feb 12th, 2012, tried Fried Mee Hoon for many times but insisted not to check the cookbook, always thought I've learnt enough. Finally cooked many pretty smashed up Mee Hoon and finally gave in and have a look. Still didn't do the job well. After at least 6 attempts only to find out that, we have to pre-mix the sauce on the Mee Hoon before put into the TM bowl, otherwise the colour will not be mixing well. Fair enough. I know I've seen dad cook a big wok of Mee Hoon enough to feed 100-200 people and he has to constantly fry and with a big wooden fork mixing up the sauce with the help of others, could not get it done himself for that big work.

See recipe on Malaysian cookbook page 84.

too smashed up and ended up cooking in soup for mum, knowing that mum won't eat the smashed up Mee Hoon and Noodles, tasted pretty good though. It's a long long way for me to brush up my cooking skill! The picture on the right was done by my customer, first attempt with me by her side, not too bad :)

Well, practice makes perfect :)

Party Food

Joey's hen's party...

Feb 8th, 2012, Joey is a friend's younger sister. I don't even know her but I thought, hey, my friend is back from Melbourne for CNY and asking her girlfriends to join in for her younger sister's hen's night, thinking for a fun night, not always, so why not. Since I have my Thermomix and still learning to cook, offered to cook nasi lemak and then ended up cooking up some other meals. Char Kuey Teow, Sambal Prawns, Fried Mi Hun.. My first time cooking up big meals. I've cooked for pot luck, enough to feed for about 5-8 persons, only one dish, white cream spaghetti and that too I thought I did well and most importantly I wasn't rushing then.

This time round..I was out getting grocery shopping including meals for my cancer friend, AP, who was still in hospital then for her 3 days chemo session. Then I was so excited meeting the girls tonight, I got some devil headbands for the sisters and a veil for the bride-to-be ;)

Bought 1 less, as I didn't know exactly how many persons that night, expecting 8 of us, but there were 9 of us :)

Then by the time I got home, I was super hungry, cooked mee suah for myself then started cooking. I was a bit silly to wait for Thermomix to finish the work for each dish before I can cook the next. I could have get some done on the stove top. Oh well, was still learning and really, when you said your food is cooked from Thermomix, they better do!

Sambal Nasi Lemak / 椰浆饭三巴

Sambal Nasi Lemak / 椰浆饭三巴

Refer to Malaysia's cookbook 2011/12 page 23, *optional: add prawns & squeeze a juice of lime

Sharing here too for those in overseas who wish to try this recipe ;)

I've cooked at least 5 times, the few other times without ikan bilis. From this, I realised that we can make our own Chili Boh (since I was cooking this for a friend who is still fighting her cancer, I was being very careful with food preparation and ingredients used, dare not to buy store ready packs - seriously, I could not find the ingredients listed on it! Also, knowing that preservatives, additives, unknown flavouring will definitely will the must have ingredients, I better not risk my friend's life)

Wow.. I would never believe that I could actually cook Sambal Nasi Lemak and Chicken Rendang at the same time (check here for the recipe ;)  Chicken Rendang

Other recipes are hard boiled eggs, ikan bilis (dried anchovies) and peanuts, coconut rice & cucumber (missed out cucumber).

Nasi Lemak (Coconut Rice)

Ingredients:
200g coconut milk
700g water
2 tsp salt (or one)
3 pandan leaves, cut into 10cm lengths (tied up into 3 knots)
400g rice, washed

Method:
1. Place coconut milk, water and salt into the TM bowl.
2. Place pandan leaves and washed rice into the basket and start cooking in the bowl.
3. Cook for 16mins/ V/ Spd 4

Here's a quick and easy chilli boh recipe

Chili Boh
Ingredients:
500g dried chillies (soaked with hot water and cut into diagonal so that the seeds are easier to come out)
1 shallot/bawang kecil
2 cloves garlic
1 tbsp cooking oil

Method:
1. Put the chillies together with shallot, garlic and oil. Now blend away. 2mins/ Speed 10 (you can add half cup of water if you intend to keep). I'll cook right away, so I won't add water to save up the cooking time (no need to wait for the drying time)

2. Pour the paste into a decent container, store it in the fridge and voila! You’ve got yourself nice homemade cili boh that will last for a month.

To cook into sambal, I love to add lime juice in it, really yummy and appetizing, thinking of it now made me drool!

Is Thermomix good? Shall I get at Thermomix? Thermomix Malaysia Price

If you ask me, for sure! Look at the amount of food that I don't think I'll ever cook but I did. All this while I thought, I always wanted to meet a guy that can cook or even with a mum that can cook will be good and ideal for me. I love to eat but I can't cook and I am not too fancy in eating out all the time. I don't mind to eat out occasionally but not all days.

Check my FB page for all the food that Thermomix can cook.
https://www.facebook.com/thermomixMY

I am trying hard to juggle with meeting new friends to share out the amazing of this Thermomix and also to create the awareness virtually and in social media website, i.e. FB and blogger. Really really hope to add in more post here but sometimes just could not find the time. I was too overly busy and in love with my Thermomix that spending time with Thermomix is the priority ;)

Do read up my notes in my page on the testimonials, reviews and other readily available recipes sites
https://www.facebook.com/thermomixMY/notes

Kimbas Kitchen in Australia wrote a great review and I found it fair for you to read it from
http://www.kimbaskitchen.com/2011/05/inside-look-at-thermomix.html
In Australia it's selling at AUD2089, easily RM6 - RM6.2K!

Here in Malaysia, we are still lucky that it's selling below RM6K and considering really cheap for it replaces so many appliances, need not to worry what if I don't use (especially to those other appliances). I have a friend who have just told me that she had an ice cream maker which she hasn't use since she bought. I asked her why you bought then? She said, nice stunning yellow colour. LOL.

If you are curious about this Thermomix, check my page for latest update on the schedule of free demo in our offices or contact me to arrange the best time to meet at your convenient, preferably your own place in your kitchen. Bring your partner, bring your friends along and show them why we all love our Thermomix and why every household should have at least one.

The fact that in Munich, every household has at least one and this is a trend catching up in Malaysia too. Check this fact in Forbes magazine. Younger generation including those in 40s could not cook anymore. To get them into the kitchen and cook up a meal via conventional way, is almost close to impossible. People would prefer a short cut way rather than going through all the hassle. Most people will either eat out, eat at in laws' or maid will do the cooking. There are of course people who still cook yet, they find cooking can be tiring.

Picture this, in future, Thermomix is like rice cooker, every house would have at least one, since it is also a stove/ induction cooker, steamer, bread maker, coffee machine, food processor, mincer, blender! If you are still wondering to get one or not, you are only wasting more money not to get one as the price keep going up up up! :)  Definitely like Astro or smartphone, not getting early but later still would have to get one, since it provides so many functions.

With Thermomix, cooking is fun. Cooking doesn't takes up too much time. Cooking healthy is never an issue nor costly. Money spent in buying organics vegetables and fruits will be more worthwhile as you don't overcook your vegs and wasted all the nutrients in it. Making your $ spent, much more worthwhile.

And in times, you save more than you spent on the seemingly expensive item to have in the first place. Do you calculation right. Most importantly, use it often, use it well. There more you use, the more you gain for sure.

The price is the main factor that can scares people off but if we use it everyday & introduce to friends, you can get it for free. I got mine free in less than 2 months, that's for sure.

Each owner of Thermomix is our True Mix's VIP member and as a member you are the Ambassador where you host a party demo with your friends of minimum 3 friends and Advisors like myself will come by to demo to your friends and you will get freebies such as set of 2 paring knives, cookbook, apron & etc. When you really fell in love with Thermomix like I did, you can just make this a career & not only earning it for free, you get paid to simply share out. Call me if you would like to know more on this.

Check latest price and offer here: Best of Thermomix in Malaysia

You  can contact me here (comment or call/ Whatsapp/ Viber/ WeChat/ Talkbox me at 014-7327 127 or email me at eddilyn@gmail.com) to arrange for a demo. At least see then only decide and be fair to yourself and giving yourself a chance to eat better, especially feed your kids and family better.

Black Sauce Noodle /  干捞 面 / 黑酱面

Feb 8th, supposingly cooked for my cancer friend but got mixed up with the many dishes made for Hen's night, so we got an extra dish that night.

I first fragrant the minced garlic and stir fry the chopped (of course chopped by TM, I'm a very lazy person :P ) mushroom, add in black snow fungus then added soy sauce, dark soy sauce and sesame oil. Then boil noodle, drained out, pour the sauce over and mixed. Simplest dish.

Then the other time I made WonTon noodle for my friend, AP. Should not have boiled the wonton in the bitter gourd's soup. I am ok with it but pity my friend who's taste bud already not doing well and I tricked her with bitter taste. Hmm.. Well, that's what happened when rushing for unplanned cooking. The third one.. I did the wonton wrapper with TM knead function, will have to try this recipe again soon, as we didn't have any corn starch or tapioca starch at home, making it a bit too hard in texture, not smooh..
